Gameplay

Take control of Umi and her Jet Pack, who must save the city from destruction. The mayor of the city has received a warning from the "Emperor of Darkness", who has threatened to blow up the city if the $1 million ransom is not paid.

He has planted numerous bombs in some of the city's buildings, and you must fly around to collect the bombs and defuse them with the "Explosive Container" located on top of the buildings. You can only collect one bomb at a time, so once you've defused one, you can collect another.

Each building has eight bombs planted, and you have 60 seconds to clear the screen. The city is also occupied by a variety of enemies, such as airplanes, helicopters, balloons, and UFOs, which you must avoid at all costs.

Contact with these enemies takes your life and ends your game. If all the bombs in the level are not defused within the time limit, the game also ends.

Each level has new enemies and more difficulty defusing the bombs as time runs out. Keep your movement fast to beat this fun arcade game and become one of the highest-scoring heroes in the world.

Development and acknowledgments

The game is developed using the AGPX GAME MAKER engine in version 2.2.1, which is a Basic to "C" language transpiler and then compiles with the excellent Oscar 64 for Dr. Mortal Wombat.

In the game, Adrián Bonnette added his art to the in-game screen, as in Umi's sideways walk. I dared to use all the sprites drawn in the GM IDE. The two SIDs were created by Esteban Trujillo, who created a new composition based on my "Umi" games during the pandemic. The second one, I asked him for a version of a classic theme that I love.

Coder Dirk Roosen, who programmed the game "El Cartero", helped me a lot with programming tips to optimize memory and have more levels in the game, and with the game's Scoreboard routine. My special thanks to him, as the Italian who created the engine discontinued it and deleted all YouTube tutorials due to health issues. We hope he'll be back in the near future, as he created a wonderfully modern tool for developing games for the Commodore 64.

Another special mention to my friend Pedro Urán from the "Commodore 64 Full" channel and a colleague in the close community we maintain on Telegram in the "Commodore 64 Club" Dany Quest group. He tested the entire game by looping it, gave me advice that only a true Commodore could give. There are details of the game that are thanks to him, and since we share the same passion for the system's original games, I couldn't count on anyone better than Pedro. He also helped me create the trailer on the real machine.

Jugabilidad

A very nice colorful game 😉 Many Commodore 64 games lack such a color palette. As the editor of K&A PLUS magazine, I can offer you a physical release of your game on cassette tape as part of the 2025 compilation. I must admit that your title caught my eye. If you are interested, please send me an email. I will tell you more details 😉 Feel free to visit our website and my channel 😊
